Goodyear prepares to announce plant location

April 23, 2015

When Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced almost a year ago that it was going to build a consumer tire plant, it did not specify where. Chairman and CEO Rich Kramer would only say it would be built in "the Americas."

However, the company did say it would let everyone know by the second quarter of 2015. So that announcement is finally close at hand. That knowledge will become public anytime between now and June 30.

The $500 million "mystery" plant will begin producing tires in the middle of 2017. At full capacity, it is expected to produce 6 million tires annually.

Last July, Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich wrote that he believed the plant would be built in Mexico. To find out why, read his July 16, 2014, blog, "I know where the next Goodyear plant will be built."
