Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and Roush Performance have teamed up to create the Cooper Zeon RS3 ultra-high performance summer tire.
The W-rated RS3 (for Roush Stage 3), in size 275/40ZR18, will run on all of Roush's 2009 modified Mustangs. In addition to the Stage 1, 2 and 3 versions, the tire will be original equipment on the 427R Trak Pak, P-51B (inspired by Jack Roush Sr.'s airplane) and Blackjack Mustangs.
According to Dave Craig, director of channel marketing for Cooper, the company is looking at adding sizes. "(Roush Performance) will help us define that."
Craig adds that Cooper will make the "Official Tire of Roush Performance" available to its dealers as soon as it can.
The RS3 is a unidirectional, asymmetric tire engineered with "extreme" dry performance capabilities, according to Cooper. It was designed to Roush Performance's specifications, and will replace the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD.
Thanks to a high void design on the inside shoulder and a silica tread compound, the tire also can perform on wet roads and tracks.
