Solutions for end-of-life tires and TPMS were highlighted in Tech International’s booth at the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.
Tech International is bringing the Salvadori brand of recycling equipment to the U.S. market. The recycling equipment is capable of turning all types of tires -- from passenger to OTR -- into crumb rubber and rubber mulch for use in commercial applications, according to Genti Bardhi, sales area manager for North America for Salvadori S.r.l. "We can do everything from flooring to rubber mulch to playground fields."
In addition to supplying tire, retread and industrial repair products to markets around the world, the Rovereto, Italy-based company makes equipment for converting tires to crumb rubber and designs and manufactures equipment for recycling scrap tires into usable products. Salvadori and Tech International are wholly-owned companies of Technical Rubber Co. (TRC).
Ghandi says legislation related to recycling will help the retreading market mature. “The early adopters are moving to the next step. They are maturing their business from retreading to recycling.”
All tires from passenger to off-the-road tires can be recycled with Salvadori equipment. Equipment for reducing scrap tires into crumb rubber is valuable to retreaders who want to downsize tires. Much more crumb rubber can fit into a truck than whole tires. “If you were to transport the whole tire instead of chopped up into crumb rubber, the trucks weigh 50% more,” says Bardhi.
Adds Cody Lawless, key account manager for Tech International: “When a casing can no longer be retreaded, we offer a second opportunity to recycle it and create a consumer product. A retreader can sell their crumb to somebody who wants to manufacture end products."
A True One-Sensor Program
Tech International also featured its tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor and tools at the SEMA Show. The company offers a true one-sensor program, according to Lawless. “Our sensors are configurable and programmable.”
The company had two TPMS tools equipped with a VIN (vehicle identification number) barcode reader on display. “The VIN barcode reader is very simple for technicians to use. The tools do a very good job of making it simple for the technician to program the sensor. It’s very easy to navigate,” Lawless says
