Oct. 7, 2019

Michelin North America Inc. has received the 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award for "oustanding environmental performance and leadership," according to Michelin officials.

Michelin was one of 17 shippers and logistics companies to receive the distinction during the American Trucking Associations' Management Conference & Exhibition, which is taking place in San Diego, Calif.

"The award is the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) highest recognition for leadership in freight, supply chain, energy and environmental performance, achieved by improving freight efficiency and contributing to cleaner air throughout the supply chain," say Michelin officials.

Michelin manufactures a portfolio of SmartWay-verified truck tires and retreads, as well as its new EnergyGuard aerodynamic trailer system.

"We are honored to receive the EPA's 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award for outstanding environmental performance for the second time," says Alexis Garcin, chairman and president, Michelin North America.

Recipients of the SmartWay Excellence Award "are redefining best practices for freight transport by reducing fuel costs and improving the public health of the communities they service," says Sarah Dunham, EPA director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality.
