VikingContact 7 Is Continental's Next-Gen Winter Tire

Feb. 5, 2019

Continental Tire the Americas LLC is replacing the Continental WinterContact SI with the Continental VikingContact 7.

The new directional tire features a Nordic tread compound comprised of active silica for "superb" grip in the wet and a rapeseed (canola) oil additive that keeps the tread compound flexible in extreme cold conditions, says the company. Its intelligent pattern design was engineered with an efficient groove network that reduces hydroplaning on wet slushy roads. The interlocking block bridges provide "perfect" tracking and stability on snow.

The tread pattern also includes a high number of 3D sipes that keep the snow edges "effective" and provide "powerful" traction and braking on snow or ice covered roads, adds Continental.

The VikingContact 7 is available in 91 sizes ranging from145/65R15 72T to 235/35R20 97T XL; by comparison, the Continental WinterContact SI is available in 38 sizes.

Here is the size breakdown of the VikingContact 7:

15-inch = 11 sizes;

16-inch = 16 sizes;

17-inch = 26 sizes;

18-inch = 20 sizes;

19-inch = 12 sizes;

20-inch = 6 sizes.

The tire, which also features the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol, is available in the U.S. and Canada.
