NHTSA urges hot weather air pressure checks

Aug. 14, 2007

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is running a new TV ad encouraging drivers to check their tire pressure during hot weather months.

"Overloaded vehicles, under-inflated tires and hot weather can all combine to possibly turn a family vacation into a horrific nightmare," says NHTSA Administrator Nicole Nason.

NHTSA officials also say that "recent research shows that hot weather can also impact the tire aging process, particularly in warm climate states."
