The second Intelligent Tire Technology conference, which will be held April 30-May 2 in Dearborn, Mich., is packed with pre-conference workshops.
Here is the pre-conference schedule for Monday, April 30. (The main conference will be held Tuesday, May 1, and Wednesday, May 2.)
8 a.m.-11 a.m.: "Conducting TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) Systems Evaluation and Qualification -- How to Qualify and Evaluate Existing Systems According to NHTSA." Workshop leader: Fred Starkey, technical consultant and TPMS specialist. In support of a TREAD Act-mandated rulemaking effort, NHTSA studied 10 existing light vehicle tire pressure monitoring systems. The systems were classified as two types: wheel-speed based (indirect) and pressure-sensor based (direct). This workshop deals with how you qualify and evaluate existing systems.
11 a.m.-2p.m.: "Making the Systems More Compatible by Dealing with Standards." Workshop leader: Mark Shaw, senior systems engineer, Freescale Semiconductor. This workshop will explore the impact and need for standards in the growing TPMS marketplace. Examples will be presented to illustrate the situations. Open discussion of any issues with having standards will be encouraged. This workshop will deal with how standards apply to all TPMS technologies including direct, indirect and battery-less solutions.
2 p.m.-5 p.m.: "Applying Wireless Sensors and Sensor Networks to Intelligent Tire Technology." Workshop leader: Terry Lee, CEO and CTO, SST Wireless Inc. This will feature introductory tutorials for non-engineers covering various technological aspects of wireless sensors and sensor networks, from component to system.
