A look at production at BFNT plants under USW contract

Jan. 31, 2007

Combined, the five tire manufacturing plants that would be covered under a new labor contract between Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC and the United Steelworkers can produce a minimum of 39,000 tires per day when running at full strength.

Here are specific capacity breakdowns for four of the five plants:

* La Vergne, Tenn. (13,600 passenger and 6,200 medium truck tires for a total of 19,800 units);

* Des Moines, Iowa (3,000 passenger and 1,500 truck tires, plus 7,200 other tires -- including farm tires -- for a total of 11,700);

* Warren County, Tenn. (7,500 medium truck tires);

* Bloomington, Ill. (300 tires in other categories).

The contract also would cover BFNT's race tire production facility in Akron, Ohio.

Two Bridgestone/Firestone industrial products plants also would be covered under a new contract.

Negotiators from BFNT and the Steelworkers officially resumed contract talks in St. Louis on Jan. 30.
