MTD Facts Issue: Goodyear, Hankook brands increase OE market share

Original equipment passenger and light truck tire shipments were down 9.6% in the United States last year, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2007 Facts Issue.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. increased its overall OE market share, remaining steady with the Goodyear brand (34%) while raising the share of its Dunlop brand (from 3% to 3.5%). Hankook Tire America Corp. was up from 2.7% to 3.9%.

Continental Tire North America Inc. dropped a little market share with its General brand, while retaining its Continental brand share (13.2%). Two other domestic tire manufacturers, Michelin North America Inc. and Bridgestone Firestone North America Tire LLC, dropped market share by design, although the Michelin brand dropped only slightly, from 12.6% to 12.5%.
