Consumer Reports picks best UHP, winter tires

Aug. 21, 2013

The results are in from Consumer Reports’ annual tire testing report, and right now there should be a lot of happy people at Michelin North America Inc. Tire engineers should also be grinning at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Nokian Tyres P.L.C. and Pirelli Tire North America Inc.

Every year, Consumer Reports runs the results of its annual tire tests in its November issue. This year CR tested a total of 49 tire models in three categories:

UHP summer tires;

UHP all-season;

Performance winter tires.

Did winter tire manufacturer Nokian score high marks in the performance winter tire category? The answer is better than yes; Nokian also ranked on the UHP summer tire list.

Michelin fared quite well, earning a “recommended” spot on all three lists, but only came in number one in one category.
