Bridgestone-USW pact awaits ratification

Sept. 22, 2009

Steelworkers at several Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations LLC (BATO) plants are expected to ratify tentative labor agreements within the next few days, according to Bridgestone officials.

Last week, BATO and the United Steelworkers union reached tentative pacts, including a master contract that covers three tire production facilities -- one in Akron, Ohio; another in Des Moines, Iowa; and a third plant in La Vergne, Tenn.

Talks also resulted in a framework for a tentative, separate contract for BATO's Warren County, Tenn., tire manufacturing plant. The company's Bloomington, Ill., factory is covered under its own contract, which expires in 2013, according to BATO.
