Black Swan automates cushion gum application

May 26, 2009

Marangoni SpA's recently unveiled Black Swan system allows for the fully automated application of cushion gum.

The system combines several phases of the retreading process, including the application of cushion gum, the filling of craters and sidewall reconstruction. It results in "considerable savings," according to Marangoni officials, including:

* elimination of the adhesive solution from the process, as well as the need to purchase specialized equipment for the process.

* "limitation of costs for purchasing cushion gum."

* streamlined workforce "as the operator on the building machine can also operate Black Swan at the same time, resulting in increased productivity."

Components of the Black Swan system include three controlled axes, a touch screen user interface, a temperature regulation system and others.
