Continental tire tops German magazine list

April 22, 2009

Continental Corp. reports its ContiCrossContact UHP tire came out on top in a recent off-road tire test conducted by the German magazine Auto Zeitung (issue 9/09).

"It held its ground against five competing models and headed up the overall ranking with a clear seven-point margin," the company says.

The magazine tested the tires (size 235/55R17) on a BMW X3. The test included products from European, American, Japanese and Korean tire manufacturers.

The specialists from Auto Zeitung tested the six tire models under real-life conditions, which involved subjecting them to sand and gravel, wet slopes and dry road conditions. The tires were also assessed in terms of comfort.

The editors placed particular emphasis on safety-related handling characteristics, reports Continental. Braking distances, for example, were evaluated on a special test area designed to simulate the road conditions at intersections where asphalt tends to become worn more quickly than on normal stretches of road.

Overall, the ContiCrossContact UHP won points for what the magazine described as its “balanced” characteristics.
