Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) will continue to be the exclusive tire supplier of the Champ Car World Series.
The recently signed, multi-year deal extends the partnership between Champ Car and BFNT that began in 1995 when the company's Firestone brand began a seven-year run as the series' official tire. The Bridgestone brand became the official tire in 2002.
"The Bridgestone brand has been an integral part of Champ Car’s success," says Steve Johnson, Champ Car's president.
The restructured contract "does not include provisions for the Bridgestone brand to remain (the) presenting sponsor of the series," say BFNT officials.
However, the company "will continue the alternate tire program, Bridgestone will procure official tire status at specific events, (and) we will continue to host hundreds of guests at hospitality units at races."
