TIA will accept Hall of Fame nominations beginning April 30

April 24, 2006

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is accepting nominations for the 2006 Hall of Fame from April 30 to June 30, 2006.

The Hall of Fame is open to individuals in the tire industry, including manufacturers, inventors, publishers, equipment suppliers, tire dealers, tire and rubber recyclers and retreaders.

A new category that was added in 2005 for "Historical Contributors" will be included again in 2006. This category recognizes those individuals who have been out of the industry for at least 20 years or more. These individuals may be retired, deceased, or may have begun their career in the tire industry and moved on to a different industry.

All inductees are chosen based on the following:

1. their contributions of new ideas, practices and/or innovations that promoted the health and well being of the tire industry;

2. their exemplary and distinguished service in the tire industry; and

3. the respect of their peers.

Contributions in civic, cultural, educational, or charitable endeavors will be considered, but are not a primary consideration as attributes for selection.

"By including the Historical Contributors category again this year, we are certain to have a very impressive group of nominees," says TIA President Bob Malerba. "There are so many individuals who have made such a significant impact on our industry. I'm sure the Hall of Fame Committee will have a difficult choice once again."

TIA also is accepting nominations for the Friend of the Industry Award (a former International Tire and Rubber Association award), which recognizes well-known individuals who are allies and proven supporters of the tire industry. These individuals are not part of the tire industry, but have affected it positively in some manner.

The deadline for nominations for the Tire Industry Hall of Fame and Friend of the Industry Award is June 30th. A nomination form that can be used for both awards is available on www.tireindustry.org or by calling TIA headquarters at (301) 430-7280, ext. 109.

The 2005 inductees were Eugene Beck, Jr., retired president of Beck Tire International; John Sieff, retired president of S&M Tire Co.; Fernley Banbury, inventor of the Banbury mixer; Theodore Smith, founder, president, publisher and editor of the India Rubber Review (now Tire Review); and Marius Mignol and Pierre Bourbon with Groupe Michelin, inventors of the radial tire.

The Hall of Fame inductions will take place during TIA's "Breakfast with the President," scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, during the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas, Nev.
