CTNA Charlotte job cuts scheduled to start

March 15, 2006

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) is scheduled to begin laying off employees at its Charlotte, N.C., plant today.

Approximately 241 hourly and salaried employees will be laid off, according to a CTNA announcement made in January.

The second phase of layoffs are slated to begin on June 30 and will impact 272 employees.

Late last week, CTNA announced it will indefinitely suspend production at its Charlotte, N.C., plant in or around Sept. 15, 2006, if it does not reach an agreement with the United Steelworkers to "significantly reduce" production costs at the factory.
