Iowa dealer takes Tire Safety Week to heart: More than 120 cars get check-ups at tire fair

July 1, 2003

When the Rubber Manufacturers Association asked tire industry professionals to participate in its annual National Tire Safety Week event, Tim Reece, vice president of R&W Tire in Boone, Iowa, answered the call with gusto. He recently told us all about it:

Dear Editor,

For National Tire Safety Week, we ran an event we called our first Tire Safety Fair. We used a pharmacy's parking lot on the main street through our town of 13,000. We advertised heavily with help from co-sponsors Bridgestone/Firestone and the Boone County Landfill.

We inspected 125 cars in five hours, so we spent about two-and-a-half minutes per car.

We have deemed the event a complete success and plan on doing it annually. Our Firestone rep said Bridgestone/Firestone was helping with three other events like this but they were all in large cities.

I am anxious to see what other dealers have done.

Thanks,

Tim Reece
