Pirelli previews the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus

Oct. 22, 2012

The Cinturato P7 All Season Plus is the latest addition to the Pirelli Cinturato family. Designed for touring and luxury touring cars, it is Pirelli Tire North America Inc.’s first environmentally friendly high-performance tire.

The new P7 All Season Plus was developed by Pirelli engineers with the ambitious objective of:

providing one tire for all seasons --

that further improved the safety and ecological characteristics of the Cinturato P7 --

for the replacement market --

without compromising the performance for which the P7 is known.

The tag line for the new tire is "One Tire, Four Seasons, No Compromises."

Cinturato P7 All Season Plus engineers developed polymers with low oil content specifically to reduce braking distances and lessen rolling resistance. In comparison to previous generation Pirelli all-season tires, the tire features the following:

* a 15% reduction in rolling resistance; the result is a 2% to 3% savings in fuel consumption.

* a silica-based tread compound for 47% better mileage; the tire is backed by a 70,000- mile limited tread wear warranty.

* a highly aromatic oil-free compound and 6% less raw materials, which support Pirelli’s commitment to the environment.

* an optimized asymmetric tread design, which leads to a 5% reduction in road noise.

Cinturato P7 All Season Plus will be available to Pirelli dealers at the beginning of 2013 for vehicle models such as Audi A3, A4 and A6; BMW 3, 5, X3 and X5; Infiniti G; Fiat 500; Mini Countryman; Mercedes A, B, CLC and S; and Porsche Panamera.

Initially, it will be rolled out in 18 sizes ranging from 205/60R16 92H to 225/45R17 94H XL. Sixteen more sizes, ranging from 225/60R16 98V to 245/45R20 99V, will be added during the first half of 2013.

Another 13 sizes, which includes another 20-inch size (245/40R20 99V XL) will be introduced in the second half of next year. That will bring the total number of replacement sizes to 47.

Pirelli says the Cinturato P7 All Season Plus is representative of the new products that will begin to appear in Pirelli’s portfolio of products that are being developed by its Interactive Development Process (IDP).

The first phase is based on interaction between different teams of engineers working in different departments, from factory technicians to key researchers who study and experiment with new materials. In this phase, every team contributes with its own skills and experiences to identify areas of improvement on the base tire and then develops and tests the most appropriate evolutions.

The second phase of IDP is based on intensive use of virtual mathematical modeling what allows different products to be developed for a variety of usage conditions via computer simulation.

The P7 All Season Plus will be produced at the company's new Mexican tire plant in Silao, Guanajuato. The original equipment version, which does not have the "Plus" nomenclature, is produced in Romania, Germany and the United States (in Pirelli's Rome, Ga., plant).
