Yokohama recalls 10,669 Avid Touring S tires

Oct. 10, 2012

Yokohama Tire Corp. is recalling 10,669 Avid Touring S tires, size 215/65R16 98T SL, produced from February 2009 through April 2009.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), the tires may have been produced with an irregular geometry in the casing turn up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall. This irregular geometry may lead to a lower sidewall crack resulting in a rapid loss of tire inflation.

"Rapid air loss while the vehicle is in use may result in a tire failure that could cause a crash."

Yokohama will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, Oct. 20, 2012. Tire owners may contact Yokohama at (800) 423-4544.
