Del-Nat Tire Corp., an independent tire distributor that operates as a cooperative, celebrated 1,500 consecutive working days – almost six full years – without a lost-time accident at its facility in South Memphis, Tenn.
“We’re very proud of this accomplishment because it shows the commitment of everyone at Del-Nat, not only to themselves, but also to all their colleagues as we all go about our work every day,” said Jim Mayfield, Del-Nat president.
The streak began in January, 2006, and involved about 60 employees in its warehouse and administrative offices. Tony McClain, safety manager at Del-Nat, said the milestone reflects the emphasis the company places on safety.
“Our motto is ‘Safety First’ and we take it very seriously,” McClain said. “We have safety training every month as well as weekly discussion meetings.”
It was the second noteworthy occasion in as many months for Del-Nat as the company reached the 80-stockholders mark in August after recently welcoming six new members.
