Cooper recall: possible contaminated rubber

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., TBC Corp. (TBC) and Del-Nat Tire Corp. are recalling certain Cooper-manufactured tires that may contain contaminated rubber in the tread compound.

Cooper is recalling certain Cooper brand Discoverer H/T tires, sizes LT235/85R16 and P265/70R17; Discoverer LSX, size 265/70R17; and Mastercraft Courser HTR, size LT235/85R16. The potential number of tires affected is 10,236. Click here to read about this recall.

TBC is recalling Sigma Stampede Radial SUV tires, size P265/70R17. The 943 recalled TBC tires are equipped with Department of Transportation (DOT) code UTT6TX60112. Click here to read about this recall.

Also included in this recall are tires branded as Del-Nat Delta A/S Sierradial or National A/S Commando, size 265/70R17 (the potentially 448 tires affected have a DOT code of either UTIYWHA0112 or UTIYWHD0112). Click here to read about this recall.

Pep Boys-Manny, Moe & Jack is recalling some 537 Definity Dakota H/T tires, size P265/70R17, for the same reason. Click here to read about this recall.

Recalled tires will be replaced at no charge, and mounting and balancing will also be free.

Cooper will notify owners of the recall, which began on June 15, 2012. Owners may contact Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s Consumer Relations Department at (800) 854-6288. The recall number is 156.
