Curry's Auto Service bags it in Gaithersburg

Jan. 5, 2012

Curry’s Auto Service Inc. is handing out free reusable grocery bags to residents of Gaithersburg at its Frederick Ave. store in Gaithersburg.

The company started handing out the shopping bags on Tuesday, Jan. 3 -- the same day the new Montgomery County law requiring retail stores to charge five cents for every paper or plastic bag they distribute took effect. The purpose of the law is to help Montgomery County put a stop to pollution of its waterways.

"While we support and applaud the county's green efforts, we are handing out the bags to help our neighbors through the transition," says Matt Curry, president of Curry's Auto Service. "We have adopted green practices at all of our Curry's locations, including using waste oil heaters and oil absorbent mats in our shops to recycled cups and eco-digital signage in our customer showrooms."

Gaithersburg residents may pick up their free bags at Curry's Gaithersburg location Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
