Black's Tire Expands With Burlington Tire Service

Dec. 4, 2020

Black’s Tire Service Inc. is acquiring Burlington Tire Service Inc., a single-store tire dealership in Burlington, N.C., that serves both retail and commercial customers.

Burlington Tire, founded in 1973 by Bill Anders, has joined Black’s Tire, which is tied for the No. 26 spot on the MTD 100. The sale was effective Dec. 1.

Anders is ready to “slow down” and semi-retire, but still plans to remain involved with the business. All 15 Burlington Tire employees are being retained by Black’s Tire.

Anders and Burlington Tire have been a partner dealer to the Black’s Tire wholesale operation, BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors, “for many years,” and the two family-owned businesses wanted to continue the legacy Anders has built over the past 47 years.

Black’s Tire also sees an opportunity to have Burlington Tire serve as a satellite wholesale location for other partner dealers in the region.

Ryan Benton, who leads retail operations at Black’s Tire, says, “The Burlington Tire family and Mr. Bill have been a great customer for many, many years. Not only have they been great customers, but more importantly, great friends  We are so proud to bring Mr. Bill and family into our family together.”

This is the first store expansion for Black’s Tire during the pandemic — the company has also built a new central distribution center at its headquarters in Whiteville, N.C. — and the company says “people still have to have jobs and we have to keep people rolling. Families depend on (the) economy and working together.”

Rick Benton, who oversees the wholesale BTS business, says, “Mr. Bill Anders has always been like family to us. When he decided to slow down a little, he wanted to team up and keep the legacy of servicing his loyal customers.”

He noted that together, the two businesses have served customers for more than 140 years.
