Western Tire Equipment Founder Vic Harisis Dies

T.G. "Vic" Harisis, who founded Western Tire Equipment & Supply Co. Inc. in 1974, recently passed away at the age of 92.

Harisis was born to Gust and Malamatini Harisis in Barberton, Ohio, near Akron. 

"As a young child, the foundation for Vic's entrepreneurial spirit was laid," according to his obituary.

"Vic sold newspapers off the bumper of a Model T Ford at the age of four, shined shoes at the age of six and worked in his father's novelty and hat cleaning store."

After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years as a radar systems technologist.

After completing his military service, Harisis attended Kent (Ohio) State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration while running a painting business.

"Upon graduation from college, Vic entered the tire equipment and supply business, which became his lifelong endeavor."

He established Western Tire Equipment & Supply Co. and served as its chairman and CEO,  working "every day right up until his death to build a company that ultimately rendered $85 million in annual sales."

Harisis was a benefactor to Kent State University, as well as the Greek Orthodox Church and "many people within the industry. Vic left a very solid impression on all who met him and he will be greatly missed."

Preceded by his parents; brother, Harry; and sister, Anastasia, he is survived by three nephews; a grand-nephew and niece; and many relatives.

Funeral services will take place on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. Pacific at St. John's Greek Orthodox Church; 405 N. Dale Ave.; Anaheim, Calif.
