Nexen Tire Corp. has a new chief executive officer. Travis Kang, who is company president, was appointed CEO at the company’s general shareholders’ meeting on Feb. 17, 2016.

Kang is the son of Nexen Tire Chairman Byung-Joong Kang.

“We expect that President Kang's strong leadership will help us take a fast and dramatic approach in business policies based on long-term plans in order to make quick and bold investment for the company," the company said in a statement announcing the appointment.

Kang joined Nexen in March 2001. Since then, he held various positions including managing director of the business planning office, president of the sales division and president of strategic planning.

The company said that throughout his career, Kang has been working closely with his employees to facilitate sales activities, especially in international and OE tire markets. He also has been leading the company's various sports marketing activities such as Manchester City Football Club sponsorship in 2015 to strengthen Nexen’s brand globally.

Nexen has been strengthening its global presence with a focus on the European market. In October 2015, the company started the construction of a new tire manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic, which will feature the most advanced automation systems along with environmentally friendly technologies.
