Cooper settles wrongful death lawsuit

May 24, 2002

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. settled a

wrongful death action lawsuit filed against the company in federal court in the Eastern District of Arkansas.

The case involved a May 1998 accident in Brinkley, Ark., that involved a Cooper tire. The company says the tire was six years old, with 25,000 miles, and had suffered a puncture in service. The case was scheduled to go to trial May 28 in Helena, Ark.

A Cooper spokesperson said the settlement "is in the best interest of all concerned," despite the fact that the tire was not the fault of the accident.

Cooper added that the settlement is not material to Cooper's financial position and, furthermore, that it is covered by the company's insurance.
