Dunn Tire Sponsors Contest for Automotive Students

Jan. 8, 2016

Dunn Tire LLC is a major sponsor of a regional contest for automotive technical students. The Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association's (NFADA's) Ron Smith Memorial AutoTech Competition will be held Jan. 16, 2016.

The NFADA and Erie Community College will host the 2016 competition, which features separate events for juniors and seniors. Seniors will go through a series of diagnostic, workstation and performance tests to measure their automotive technical skills and abilities.

Dunn Tire sponsors one of the six workstations the competitors rotate through in the senior event. Dunn Tire is tied for 35th on the Modern Tire Dealer 100.

The juniors will be competing in a "Tire Changing Rodeo" sponsored by Exxpress Tire, a western New York wholesale tire dealer. Students will demonstrate their expertise on the Hunter TC3700 tire changer , as well as a written test on general tire knowledge.

The WNY Ford Dealers are the vehicle sponsors and will be providing five 2016 Ford F150s for the competition.

The competition, to be held at the Erie Community College-Vehicle Technology Training Center at 5885 Big Tree Road in Orchard Park, N.Y. will be open to the public beginning at 9 a.m. It concludes with an awards ceremony at approximately 3 p.m.

Teams competing this year represent the following career and technical high schools from the Western New York area: Burgard High School, Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, Harkness Career & Tech Center, Kenton Career & Tech Center, LoGuidice Educational Center, Niagara Career & Technical Center, Potter Career & Tech Center, and W.D. Ormsby Center.

First place finishers will represent their school and the Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association at the National Automotive Technology Competition in New York City in March.
