Continental announces consumer tire price increases

Continental Tire North America Inc. will raise prices on its replacement passenger and light truck tires effective Feb. 1, 2005.

Prices will be raised up to 6% on the company´s Continental, General, Semperit and private brand consumer tires, according to a Continental spokesperson. The price increases affect tire dealers in both the United States and Canada.

Last month, Continental´s Commercial Group announced it will raise prices effective Jan. 1, 2005. The increases will affect all truck and off-the-road brands and will range from 3% to 6%.

Continental is the fourth tire manufacturer to announce price increases for consumer tires.

* Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (and its sister company, Bridgestone/Firestone Canada Inc.): up to 5% effective Jan. 1.

* Yokohama Tire Corp.: 3% to 4% effective Dec. 31.

* Pirelli Tire North America: 3% to 5% effective in December.
