May 1, 2002

Treadways Corp. has named Roy Araki its president, as Treadways CEO Dan Wire prepares to become more involved in long-term strategic planning, customer-supplier relations and acquisitions, particularly in the retail end.

Araki, who began his career with Sumitomo Corp. in 1975, will report directly to Wire.

Araki has held a variety of top positions in the Sumitomo Tire division of Treadways and was directly involved with the private brand marketer's acquisition of Eldorado Tire.

In addition to Sumitomo and Eldorado, Treadways markets tires under the Laramie, Jetzon, Telstar and Centennial brand names.

Its brands, combined, enjoy 3.5% share of the United States passenger tire replacement market, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
