Thousands of motorists will hit America's highways this holiday weekend, but are their cars ready? In a startling number of cases the answer is no, according to recently published results of a Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. survey.
One in every four drivers spends less than 30 minutes preparing their vehicles for long road trips, Goodyear's survey reveals.
"Even more revealing, nearly one in five respondents can't remember the last time their car was serviced."
More than 25% of respondents reported they have experienced vehicle breakdowns, 41% or whom placed the blame on tire problems.
"No matter where you are driving, some tire mishaps are unavoidable," says Jon Rich, president of Goodyear's North American Tire division.
"But a lot of potential problems can be avoided if you just take the time to check your tires."
Survey results also reveal:
* 40% of drivers haven't had their tires serviced in more than three months;
* one in 10 motorists is driving on tires they rate as only "fair" or "poor" condition;
* nearly 40% of respondents believe less road noise would make driving a more enjoyable experience.
The survey was conducted in conjunction with the introduction of Goodyear's Assurance line.
