Court blocks Ford from using Futura name

Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack scored a big legal win over Ford Motor Co. when a U.S. District Court in Detroit recently blocked the auto manufacturer from using the Futura name.

Pep Boys sells Futura brand tires. Earlier this month, Ford announced plans to build Futura brand sedans starting next year.

Ford used the Futura name for a line of sedans it manufactured between 1959 and 1962, and later in the 1970s and '80s.

The auto manufacturer had filed suit against Pep Boys to use the name again.

"Pep Boys is very pleased with the outcome," says a spokesman for the auto parts chain, which has more than 600 locations in 36 states.
