Goodyear strengthens quality, compliance efforts with v.p. appointments

March 27, 2002

In response to what Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Chairman and CEO Sam Gibara calls "the significant increase in activity to ensure compliance to new and more safety regulations such as the TREAD Act," the tire company has named James C. Whiteley vice president for government compliance and product performance, and Donald E. Stanley vice president, product quality and plant technology.

"The Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act is adding significant cost, a new liability threat and a substantial new product safety and regulatory compliance workload, much of it the result of the Bridgestone/Firestone recall," said Lowell Dunckel, senior vice president for product supply and technology. "Strengthening Whiteley's position will help us maintain the public trust in our products."

Whiteley and Stanley will report to Dunckel and Joe Gingo, senior vice president of global products planning.

Stanley will be responsible for product and process quality in the company's plants worldwide, plant engineering, environment, health and safety, and the corporation's Six Sigma training.
