Highway named after Dealtrey

Feb. 10, 2004

A portion of Interstate 78 that stretches from the New Jersey border to the Berks County, Pa., line has been named after Bethlehem, Pa.-based Service Tire Truck Centers founder and 1997 Modern Tire Dealer Tire Dealer of the Year Walt Dealtrey Sr.

Dealtrey, who died in late 2002, championed the highway's development.

"I-78 is more closesly identified with Walt Dealtrey than any other individual," says Pennsylvania Senator Charlie Dent.

The part of the freeway that honors Dealtrey is called the Walter J. Dealtrey Memorial Highway.
