Goodyear to sell two million run-flats

Oct. 6, 2005

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. expects to sell about two million run-flat tires worldwide at both the original equipment and replacement levels in 2005, Bill Hopkins, Goodyear's vice president of product marketing and technology planning, told moderntiredealer.com yesterday.

Last year, Goodyear sold one million run-flats at both OE and replacement, according to Hopkins.

"It took us 10 years to reach our one-million mark" in 2003.

In addition, Goodyear's run-flat development deal with Michelin North America Inc. "is coming along. We're still fierce competitors in the marketplace, but at the same time, you need collaboration in the industry" in order to establish technological standards.

The tiremakers set up their run-flat partnership in 2001.
