AARP honors Michelin for employment practices
Michelin North America Inc.'s “knowledge sharing initiatives” and strong benefits package helped it earn a "Best Employers for Workers over 50" award from AARP.
More than one-third of Michelin North America’s employees are age 50 or above, including several new hires. It employs 8,000 in South Carolina and over 23,000 in North America. It has another 2,000 retirees in the Carolinas.
“The talent of our people is by far our best asset,” said Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America Inc. “Our experienced workers represent a depth of knowledge that is a key business advantage for us. We’ve been manufacturing in the United States for more than 30 years and many of the employees who started with us in 1975 are still with us. Mining that wealth of experience is part of what propels Michelin forward.”
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that "helps people 50+ have independence, choice and control in ways that are beneficial and affordable to them and society as a whole."
This year, AARP will recognize 50 employers that recruit and retain a skilled and experienced workforce. These companies offer some of the best policies and practices like phased retirement, generous 401(k) company contributions, flextime, job sharing, telecommuting and compressed schedules.
