Union: 'Charges are without merit'

June 30, 2005

National Labor Relations Board charges recently filed by Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) against the United Steelworkers are "without merit," says a union spokesman.

CTNA is accusing the union of breaking off talks with the Rosler Group, which was going to buy its OTR tire plant in Bryan, Ohio.

The union's contract with CTNA states that if another party wants to buy the facility it must first negotiate a new labor contract.

Talks between Steelworkers and Rosler, which is based in Dortmund, Germany, broke off last week without a settlement.

There are no additional talks scheduled.
