Warren County workers reject BFNT deal

June 21, 2005

Steelworkers at Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC's (BFNT) Warren County, Tenn., plant have rejected the union's tentative labor agreement with the company.

BFNT and the Steelworkers reached tentative contracts and agreements covering eight facilities earlier this month.

Four tire building plants and two diversified products plants are covered by a proposed master contract, while Warren County and another factory are convered by their own agreements.

The union is conducting informational meetings with workers at other BFNT locals. Ratification votes will take place next week.

"You need to have a majority vote" to ratify a contract, says a union spokesman. "That doesn't apply to Warren County because they have their own agreement."
