CTNA announces GTY truck tire recall

Feb. 9, 2005

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) is recalling 49 truck tires that were built at the GTY Tire plant in mid-December.

The 22.5-inch tires were sold under the Continental and General brand names.

Earlier today, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. announced it is recalling 24 truck tires made at the GTY facility.

Yokohama Tire Corp. also is recalling 69 Yokohama brand truck tires that were built at the plant.

GTY Tire is a joint venture between CTNA, Toyo and Yokohama based in Mount Vernon, Ill.

"Once we identified the problem we quickly were able to isolate almost all of the affected tires," says Tom Roydhouse, CTNA's vice president of commercial vehicle tire business.

All of the tires that CTNA is recalling have a DOT code that ends with the numbers "5004, signifying the week of production."
