After down year, RMA predicts growth for tread rubber shipments

Dec. 20, 2001

Positive growth is expected in both 2002 and 2003 for shipments of tread rubber used to produce retreaded tires, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA).

Although the second quarter of this year showed improvement, 2001 will record a 5.1% decrease compared with shipments in 2000, according to the RMA's Tread Rubber Market Analysis Committee.

Following a correction in tire inventories duing the second half of this year, growth from 2001 to 2003 will average 2% per year, the committee forecasts.
