Competition for tire manufacturers coming to WRC

June 29, 2010

Reported today on the wrc.com web site; The FIA has announced that next year's World Rally Championship will be made up of 13 rallies, and that all tire manufacturers will be able to supply the series, ending the sole tire supplier system.

The decisions were taken by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council which met in Geneva earlier today.

The council announced that WRC sporting regulations would be amended to allow any tire manufacturer to supply tires from 2011 - after Pirelli's three year sole supplier deal comes to an end. The FIA said regulations would be implemented to control costs. The amended regulations will be presented to the World Motor Sport Council for a fax vote before 20 July 2010. The Junior World Rally Championship, however, will continue with a single tire supplier in an effort to control costs.
