Bridgestone/Firestone (BFS) Inc. will pay a settlement to each state in the nation to stave off lawsuits stemming from accidents involving the ATX, ATX II and Wilderness AT tires it took off the road during its 6.5 million-unit recall last year.
BFS would neither confirm nor deny the total settlement amount, which the Associated Press has pegged at $41.5 million.
The tiremaker will release an official statement regarding the situation this afternoon.
