Truck tonnage increased 1.5% in July, according to the American Trucking Associations' (ATA) seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index.
Compared with the same month last year, tonnage climbed 7.4%. Year-to-date, tonnage is up 6.7% vs. the same period in 2009.
ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello believes tonnage will continue to increase moderately, but he cautions that the economy "is slowing. Truck tonnage has essentially gone sideways since April 2010."
