Big Brother is investigating tire aging (and voluntary tire registration)

May 22, 2014

The sensationalism and bias aside, ABC's recent reports on tire aging and the tire recall system indicate how close our industry may be to great change.

If tire manufacturers are required to put an expiration date on a tire, imagine how distributing, stocking and selling a tire will change. That probably will include an increase in the cost of the tire.

If the tire recall system is revamped, the days of voluntary tire registration may be over.

Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich watched all three of the reports. To read his comments, check out "Why the issue of tire aging is coming to a head."

Make no mistake, the United States government, for better or worse, is now involved in both of these issues.Where the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation will lead is anyone's guess.

What are your thoughts about tire aging and the tire recall system? Do you think the government is prepared for such an investigation?

Did ABC do a good job of reporting? Is Ulrich on target or overreacting? Read the blog, then let us know what you think by leaving a comment.
