Commercial truck tire expert Al Cohn recently died at the age of 66.
A Chicago, Ill., native, Cohn was born to David and Yvonne (Levy) Cohn. Following graduation from the University of Illinois at Chicago, he moved to Akron, Ohio, to work for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., where he held a number of positions, including technical marketing manager for the company’s commercial tire business unit.
In 2006, Cohn joined Pressure Systems International (PSI), as director of new market development and engineering support. A sought-after industry speaker, he also was a member of SAE, the American Trucking Associations and the Intermodel Association of North America and received the Silver Spark Plug award, the Technology and Maintenance Council’s highest honor.
“Al’s amazing personality, selflessness, energy and positive attitude were matched only by his sense of humor,” according to PSI. “No one else could hold the attention of a hundred people for an hour talking just about tires, earning him the unofficial title of ‘Tire Doctor.’
“He made an impact with everyone he met, from long-term industry friends to the servers that had the good fortune of waiting on his table at restaurants. Being in the company of Al was always a gift and one that will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Preceded by his parents, Cohn is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Ingrid; children Marty Cohn and Daniel (Elisa) Cohn; grandchildren Eden and Moana; and brother Mark (Karen) Cohn.
Private graveside services took place on May 2.
