Tire 'deals' at warehouse clubs are debatable

Sept. 17, 2015

Are tires less expensive at warehouse clubs than at independent tire dealerships? A recent business writer from U.S. News & World Report seems to think so.

He labels tires a "major purchase" in his article, no doubt because consumers don't buy them in bulk like toilet paper. He asks the question, "Is shopping at Costco or Sam's Club really worth the savings?" He then answers his own question, or at least gives advice on how to find out.

The writer's implication is quite clear, however.

As you might expect, Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich decided to weigh in on the topic. To read about what is being said about the competition between distribution channels, check out "Warehouse clubs versus independent tire dealers."
