TRIB-California Waste Board will meet again

Dec. 8, 2003

The Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) will present the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) with a position paper on Dec. 15 detailing why retreaders should be exempt from California's controversial waste tire manifest law.

"We recently had a private meeting with members of the CIWMB staff," says TRIB Managing Director Harvey Brodsky. "We were requested to make a proposal regarding how we would like to see the language changed in order to obtain relief."

In September, Brodsky told that TRIB would seek legal and legislative aid to obtain exemption for California retreaders, who -- under the seven-month-old manifest law --are subject to fines of up to $25,000 per day per violation for "offenses" as minor as filling out manifest forms incorrectly or even carrying forms that another party filled out incorrectly.

TRIB also is "restructuring" its lobbying efforts in conjunction with the Tire Industry Association's government affairs department.

In addition, TRIB has recruited Terry Laveille to represent it in future meetings with CIWMB officials.
