ATD extends Sunbelt distribution with new warehouse

March 17, 2005

American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) opened a 94,000-square-foot distribution center in Oklahama City, Okla, earlier this week as part of its efforts to expand its distribution capacity in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

The opening "more than quadrupled" ATD's warehouse capacity in Oklahoma City, say ATD officials.

Next on ATD's expansion agenda is the opening of a new 64,000-square-foot distribution center in Albuquerque, N.M., next month that will "significantly increase product offering to Albuquerque dealers as the existing (warehouse) is only 24,000 square feet."

The openings follow on the heels of warehouse expansions in McAllen and Dallas, Texas, over the last three months.

"Increasing our distribution center capacity is important, but it's only one piece of our plan," says John Flowers, ATD's vice president of operations.

"We are also investing in inventory management and logistics systems."
