Goodyear, NASCAR mark 50 years together

Aug. 19, 2004

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. began supplying racing tires to NASCAR drivers a half-century ago.

The anniversary was celebrated earlier this afternoon at Goodyear corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio, with an event that included Goodyear Chairman and CEO Bob Keegan and NASCAR legends Richard and Kyle Petty.

"We´re extremely proud that this year is our 50th in NASCAR´s world," says Stu Grant, Goodyear general manager, global race tires.

Since 1997, Goodyear has been the exclusive supplier to NASCAR´s Nextel (formerly Winston) Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series.

"Our relationship with NASCAR is strong and we look at 2004 as very exciting because we are supplying a completely new generation of Goodyear tires to its top three series to line up with the sanctioning body´s rule changes being implemented this year."
