May 29, 2008

Despite a lagging economy, United States consumers bought an unprecedented $38.1 billion in specialty automotive products during 2007, according to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

That represents an increase of nearly 4% from 2006 levels.

"Industry sales have grown at rates that are two to three times of what might have been expected," says SEMA Vice President of Research Jim Spoonhower.

More information can be found in SEMA's annual Market Study, a 41-page document that details nine market niches, plus a variety of market segments.
