ITRA elects Tom Raben president

April 22, 2001

The International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) has elected Tom Raben of Raben Tire Co. Inc. in Evansville, Ind., its new president.

Raben replaces Bob Sherwood, president of Tristani Retreading Corp. in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, after one year as president. Sherwood's term as a member of ITRA's board of directors also expired.

"We have to change the organization, and keep pace with what's going on," says Raben. He adds the association will continue to emphasize its Commercial Tire Service Training and Certification program.

Raben Tire runs 23 predominantly commercial outlets and two Bandag retreading plants. The company retreads an estimated 260 medium truck tires and 10 OTR tires a day, according to Modern Tire Dealer.

The three-year terms of three board members in addition to Sherwood also expired this year. Two were re-elected at the World ITRA Expo: ITRA Executive Director Marvin Bozarth and Fleet Tire Consulting's Peggy Fisher.

Buck Blair of Tech International and Mark Whaley of Iowa Mold Tooling replaced Sherwood and Bill Babek, respectively.

In other news from the World ITRA Expo, Bill Gragg, former director of retread training for ITRA, will head up some training and special projects for the association through his consulting company, Retreading Solutions.
